IMPORTANT: If you have not already done so, please provide your contact information here.
You must fill out the contact information sheet before you are allowed out onto the water.
This will give us an emergency contact for you (in case we need it), and will also get you to confirm that you can swim and are in good health. You are not allowed out
The club has various squads of rowers for different levels of experience and age. We currently have an M1 and W1 open squad, two women's and three men's masters squads, a mixed novice squad, and the Anglia Ruskin University squad.
If you have rowed before then you can try out in one of our crews. If you have not rowed before then you can join the Learn-to-Row course, which runs throughout the year on a rolling basis. The club has regular outings throughout the week; popular times for outings are Tuesday evenings (with drinks afterwards at The Haymakers pub) and Saturday mornings (with coffee and breakfast afterwards at a local café). Other crews have different times - there is usually some rowing every day.
The club has a wide fleet of boats (seven 8+, five 4+/x, four 2x/- and five 1x). You will be able to book to use the small boats in your own time if you have the right level of experience (contact membership@xpressbc.org.uk for this).
See here for the locations of our boathouses. Beginner sessions are run from the Old CRA Boathouse at the bottom of Kimberly Road. You can access the river via a narrow footpath that leads alongside the Old CRA building. Other boats are either stored at Old CRA, New CRA or some college boathouses.
Getting there - If you live locally then it's best to cycle to the boathouse. You can park in the local streets, but there are controlled parking zones in places. There is usually more parking available at the New CRA boathouse (you can park there and it is a 10 minute walk to Old CRA).
Valuables - please do not leave phones, money, keys etc. lying around in the boathouse (which is a public area). It is better to take valuables with you on the water (coaches will likely have a waterproof-zipped bag for valuables).
The first session is free.
If you chose to join the club the membership cost is currently £20 per month. You can pay subscriptions as a standing order of £20 per month or as a lump sum for the remainder of the year (we prefer a lump sum for the year as this is less admin for us). The full subscription for annual membership is £240. The 'year-end' for subscriptions is 31 March, and we would pro-rate membership costs (so if you join in November then you should pay for five months, i.e., £100).
Membership for coxes is free. We also offer a reduced membership rate for students and younger members of the club; please contact membership@xpressbc.org.uk if that applies to you.
