Leicester Regatta

XPC Stern Four Roy and Andrew

The XPC stern four beat Leicester, and XPC bow four beat Oundle in the semis to set up an all XPress final, which the stern four won having conceded a five second start.

  • XPC Stern four: Olivia Lewis, Adrian Cooke, Marcus Taylor, Andrew Miers, Allan Fowlie
  • XPC Bow four: Roy Cooper/Jason Brown, Roger Thornton, Jeremy Procter, Edmund Lowson, Mike Harrison

Sadly there were no other Vet 8s entered, so XPC competed at IM2 where it pushed a Jesus College 8 very hard in the Semis - despite conceding 25 years a man! Jesus went on to beat XP1 in the IM2 final.

Roy and Andrew also won in their Vet C pair.

XP1 Win the Winter League

Calibrating BalancePush to the FinishPots!

X-Press men's first eight excelled themselves in the third leg of the Winter League. Not only did they win the event, they also set a new club record time of 9.22 over the Cam head course.

The crew happily admit that they benefitted from favourable weather in the second leg of the Winter League - their main competitors, City 1, rowing in worse conditions earlier in the day. However for the final leg XP1 and City 1 raced in the same division to ensure a fair race.

City 1 initially gained ground on XP1, though once they hit the long reach XP1 got into their stride and reopened the gap. Amazingly, both crews finished in exactly 9.22 (City 1 were later given a time penalty for doing practice starts upstream on the way to the start).

There's also a little video of them reaching the finish line here. Turn the sound up to hear how tired they were at the end!
