Our Web site runs on a Content Management System called Joomla. I have just completed the critical part of an upgrade from 1.0.12 to 1.5.8. Although the previous site was in no way broken, and although this upgrade adds little in the way of new functionality, the upgrade is necessary to ensure we can continue to maintain our installation of Joomla with security updates, much like you use Windows Update to keep a PC healthy.
The difference between 1.0.* and 1.5.* is quite substantial and I have had to build a new site then migrate the various data and components across from the old site. For the last few days there have, therefore, been two sites in existence. The data has not been synchronised between these sites and so I asked if you could all avoid adding new data. Thanks for your assistance!
To avoid prolonging this situation, I prioritised the tasks that were required to get the new site into a usable state - rough but ready. I have now reached this state - you should be able to log in, add news stories and use the boat booking system. New users can register as before.
There are a few tasks still to be done. These are listed below, and I ask you to bear with me while I tick them off. To give you some idea of time scales, the big task is the template, and I don't expect to finish this until well into the New Year. (The most frustrating part of this upgrade has been that Joomla 1.5.* uses a different templating system to 1.0.* and I have had to discard our existing template, which had been refined and matured over the last 4 years.)
If you have any problems using the new site, please e-mail me on This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . If you are unsure how something has changed, you can access the old site at http://old.xpressbc.org.uk.
TO-DO
- Create a new template (current one not supported in Joomla 1.5) (~50% complete)
- Fix the web links
- Tidy up Community Builder (but the migration is complete - hurrah)
